THE OTORO DESIGN INC. is a company that was founded in Shimizu,
Shizuoka Prefecture, a prefecture that has the world-famous Mt. Fuji in
it.
Here, blessed with such natural environment, many craftsmen of good
craftsmanship have, heretofore, created a variety of works pursuing
their own originality, using various well-used tools, but not without
some frustration with conventional tools.
"Then," thought they. "Why don't we design, develop and manufacture
tools on our own? Why don't we create them ourselves from the viewpoint
of craftsmen and bring them to the world?
We could please the world craftsmen who have the same dissatisfaction,
if we could help them solve their problems by letting them use our
creations."
And here we are with a company full of craftsman spirit.
OTORO products, developed by the Japanese way of thinking, are backed by highly creative, unique design and functionality, and embody developers' ideas to satisfy craftsmen's creative urge. Users of the products would easily understand developers' special feeling for the products' user-friendliness. High-quality craftsmanship and maturity in works, as well as the ease-of-use of the tools, all of these are greatly helped by the user-friendly design of the products.
One of the foods introduced to the world from Japan is sushi. Of all the sushi items, "otoro" is known as one of the finest and as the best part of the tuna. Shimizu, a city located in Shizuoka Prefecture that boasts Mt. Fuji, is famous for tuna with its top landing volume in Japan of frozen tuna. We named our brand after "otoro", so that the brand will form "the best part" of tools to lead the industry in the world, as another "otoro" in the form of tools coming from Japan with Japanese way.
